Farmers Scientists Meet

With the Heavenly Blessings of Sant Baba Dlawar Singh Ji, and under the supervision and patronage of Hon’ble Chancellor Sant Baba Sarwan Singh Ji and Worthy Vice Chancellor Dr. Dharmjit Singh Parmar, Department of Agriculture conducted “Farmers’ Scientists Meet”on 22-02-23 under the leadership of Incharge Promotional Activities Dr. Shalu Rani and Dr. Vijay Singh. About 30 students of Agriculture Department and Faculty members along with senior Professors Dr. Ombir, Dr. V.K.Phogat and Dr. P.S.Tyagi , visited the Apiary of Mr. Manjit Singha progressive farmer of Mahilpur. During this meet the Farmers especially Mr. Manjit Singh explained in detail regarding Bee keeping as a business and problems associated with marketing of honey and other products obtained from bee keeping. Bee keeping expert scientist Professor Dr. Ombir interacted with students and farmers and discussed at length about various aspects of Bee keeping, Purity of Honey, types of Honey and other modalities to be kept in mind while adopting bee keeping as a business. He keenly listened to the problems being faced by, Bee Keeping Farmers, and gave useful advice to them for further expanding bee keeping business and making it more profitable. Students took keen interest in this meet and learned about various aspects of bee keeping including identification of types of bees in a hive, checking purity of honey, handling of frames of bee hives, extraction of honey etc. All the queries of students were answered by the experts. At the end farmers appreciated and thanked the Agriculture Department faculty and Sant Baba Bhag Singh University authorities for taking the initiative of organizing programs of interaction between farmers and University Scientists for on the spot study of problems and solutions to the problems in their venture in agriculture sector.

Visit to JSS Ashakiran Special School
